VSLS (Variable Speed Limit Sign)
Variable Speed Limit Signs are used inside tunnels or outside on motorways displaying dynamically changed speed limits according to current traffic conditions.
A Variable Speed Limit Sign (VSLS) is a LED technology display product that informs drivers of current speed limit. They can be used in several cross-sections of a motorway alone or combined with Lane Availability Signs.
There are three basic models, each one with the capability to display two (2D) or three (3D) digits. The models’ classification is based on the circle ring dimensions and the displaying digit heights. The model choice is based on the motorway typical speed limit and the required maximum reading distance that depends on the displaying digit heights. Every VSLS model can display all possible speed limits in increments of 10.
VSLS signs are usually integrated in a Traffic Management System (TMS SCADA), where all signs are controlled according to traffic scenarios and automations. Alternatively smaller scale integrations can be easily performed via the relay inputs. The communication method varies according to project network infrastructure and local communication interfaces.
